Language Objectives Used with Ted Ed
Recently, I decided to experiment with Ted Ed by making a lesson on the solar system. By making the lesson on the solar system, I concentrated on the following language objectives:
Language Standards Referenced: ELA. 2. R. 1: Students will read, write, listen, and speak for information and understanding
Objectives:
* Students will be able to listen and read information pertaining to the solar system.
Content Standards: S.2. ESS. 2.1- The History of Planet Earth (Grade 2)
Objectives:
* The students will identify where Earth is located in the solar system (identify that Earth is the third planet from the sun).
Assessment: I would test the students learning by using a pre and post test coordinating with Ted Ed.
- Answering 'what' questions
- Listening to questions and answering questions appropriately
When reviewing these language objectives, the objectives would be tested based on how the students respond to the questions. Although this lesson looks at conventions of both listening and answering questions, it also incorporates content based learning that focuses on the solar system. This lesson would best be incorporated into student learning based on students performing on the emerging level of learning (based on NYSLAT).

I think the students will really enjoy your lesson because the video is very engaging. "Giant ball of gas" had me laughing out loud and I am sure that kids will be too. It was a good choice of a video so I think it will be a successful TED Lesson because you are starting with good source material.
